2013 RecipientRecipient of PTS Special Ed. Teacher of the Year $5,000 Grant - Spring-Ford Spotlight
Amanda Leslie was named the 2013 Pediatric Therapeutic Services Special Education Teacher of the Year.
Amanda started a peer mentoring group at Spring-Ford last year called SF Ram Buddies. Student volunteers are paired up with special education students and twice a month, they meet to play sports or games and to socialize with each other.
Amanda Leslie accepted a check for $5,000 from PTS that will go towards expanding and improving the SF Ram Buddies program.
In 2012, PTS awarded our first annual Special Education Teacher of the Year Award, recognizing outstanding innovation and dedication in the area of program development for students with special needs. The award includes a $5,000 grant (for the classroom) to enable the teacher to enhance opportunities for students with equipment, technology and training as well as spur further innovation. If awarded, the Special Education Teacher of the Year is required to present a poster at the PATTAN Special Education Conference in Hershey, PA to provide an opportunity for other educators to adopt and replicate successful programs and strategies.
Submit an essay of 1000 words or less describing innovations in this teacher's programming for students with disabilities. It is recommended that data be provided demonstrating the effectiveness of programming with respect to student progress, performance and opportunities to integrate into the school and community. Applications must include a letter of recommendation from the teacher's Director of Special Education/Pupil Services.
Teachers may self-nominate or be nominated by colleagues or parents.
