BEAUTIFUL
GATE SPECIAL SCHOOL - MYSORE, INDIA
In November 2008, Managing Partner, Pam Hackett volunteered
at the Beautiful Gate Special School in Mysore, India. During her
visit, she provided direct physical therapy services to students
at the school as well as intensive teacher inservices on Motor
Development, Sensory Integration, Autism, and Integrating Sensory
Motor Activities for Learning. She worked closely with the administrators
of the school to develop individualized education plans and progress
monitoring tools to help improve communication and instruction.
She and the teachers also created center-based learning centers
in the classrooms, where learning could be combined with therapeutic
sensory and motor activities. "The trip was a life-changing
experience," says Hackett.
"
I am hoping to return to India again next November to continue
our work there." PTS is working with the school to implement
a remote consultation service, where PTS therapists in the US can
volunteer to consult on a specific student using internet based
video conferencing.
